Biography

Illustrator Outsidethewoods focuses on surreal portraiture inspired by experiences growing up in inner-city and shared childhood experiences of being city kid, exploring how that shaped who they are as adult. Their work highlights how contemporary art as African is gradually shifting in globalized world, balancing many influences with responsibility of still representing where they come from. Drawing from shows like Takalani Sesame and Sesame Street infused in muses, the work aims to highlight beauty in overcoming struggles and being resilient. They drive culture forward by creating what they feel is future of visual art, showing kids what can be achieved through arts and self-belief, inspiring next generation to push themselves.
