Biography

Filmmaker and community organizer/curator Vidal Thaver focuses on developing and platforming stories of youth and women. With studies in Psychology and Film, she explores social issues through creative visual lens, believing it necessary to share authentic African perspectives that reflect circumstances on global scale. Having screened short films from San Francisco to Tokyo, she founded The Emotional Club, a community project advocating for unapologetic emotionality and empathy as invaluable strength to visual storytelling. Foregrounding underrepresented voices, especially women and LGBTQ+ filmmakers, she drives culture forward by using writing and creative practice as cultural participation and intervention, shaping a cultural and creative landscape that is people-centered and empathetic, using screens as mechanism of uniting.
